What is SPEAK OUT!®?

Nine out of ten people with Parkinson's are at risk of developing a weak voice that can lead to serious speech and swallowing issues. Parkinson Voice Project has developed a program that combines education and individual speech therapy sessions that focus on learning to speak with intent while completing speech, voice, and cognitive exercises designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson disease. SPEAK OUT® is usually completed in 8-12 sessions spanning four-six weeks, and then the client transitions to the SPEAK OUT Groups® portion of the program.

SPEAK OUT Groups® is the group therapy portion of the program and meets once weekly. These sessions provide maintenance therapy so patients retain skills mastered during SPEAK OUT!®, and provides accountability, camaraderie, education, and support for all members.

Parkinson’s Information Session

The speech therapy program begins by educating patients and families by having them attend a Parkinson's Information Session. It is essential for all involved to understand basic information about Parkinson's and how speech and swallowing can be affected. The session explains how using intention can improve one's communication, as well as other motor movements, such as walking and writing. An online version of the Parkinson's Information Session is available at .
